Eat at the sushi bar, and if you do ask for vinny! He happens to be my favorite sushi chef. From being the only sushi chef working on a Monday night the place was packed. He managed to serve 17 people at one time and did such a tremendous job. His sushi is seriously "the bomb".

The service is always fantastic

Some of the best steak I've ever had, anywhere. This includes California, Texas and New York. The fabled Kobe steak is usually available and is worth every penny if you've never tried it. If that wasn't enough, the lobster and shrimp are amazing as well. The show is always entertaining, as the good is cooked to order right in front of you in a dazzling and fun manner. Great sushi as well. Ask for Raffy as your chef. He and Michelle provided the best service I've ever had here, and the service is always fantastic to begin with. Consistently impeccable food since my first visit here in 2006

Dinner to perfection

We were passing through Reno and wanted to treat ourselves to a special dinner. Ichiban opens at 5pm so we got a cocktail, pulled a few slots and were there with the first table to be seated. By 6pm the place was full. Chef Rafael was enjoyable, articulate, humorous and witty. He also cooked our dinner to perfection while entertaining everyone at the table including a child. He really helped us unwind and enjoy our meal, or maybe it was the sake. Next time we're spinning our wheels in Reno, we will be catching shrimp tails at Ichiban!

I love this place

Wayne is an AMAZING chef.

This is probably the best sushi you can get in Reno. Bar none. The taste is amazing, the variety is wonderful, and the service is sublime. Wayne is an AMAZING chef; calmly competent and great at constructing any roll, with any alteration. I watched him turn an avocado into strips of avocado in about one minute! And our hostess Tara was on-point, friendly, and willing to chat while remaining efficient and supremely competent at her job. Appetizers are included in the all you can eat price, so I would even call it cost-effective. I will definitely be returning! ALERT LADIES: THERE. ARE. PURSE. HOOKS!

Ichiban is better than Benihana.

Ichiban is a Japanese Teppanyaki steakhouse, in the Benihana style. My family really enjoys Benihana, so we decided to give Ichiban a try. In our opinion, Ichiban is better than Benihana. The presentation/entertainment/cooking of the food is very similar, but the quality of the food choices seems to be much higher.

Always memorable.

I loved the chef's artistry in making and presenting all the different food items--many Asian courses--my favorite food. It was my birthday and we got a special dessert. We honestly make special trips to Reno just to eat at Ichiban's.

Ever since we tried Ichibans in 2013, we come here just about every time we come to Reno. There is a sushi chef there, named Vinnie, that always makes our experience the best. He is attentive to your needs and will make you whatever you want. He will even custom make a roll for you if you don't like something or if you want a certain ingredient in a roll. We were there last night and watched him interact with a customer. She doesn't like sea weed but she wanted a sushi roll. Vinnie used some other type of wrap and she loved it !! Vinnie told them, don't worry I know you will like it ! She loved the roll and said it was the best sushi roll she has ever had ! He also suggests the customer to have an item a certain way as he knows it tastes better that way. All the ingredients in the sushi taste so fresh. I'm not a big sashimi guy, but it's pretty tasty here. We have not eaten on the teppan yaki (benihana style) side of the restaurant yet. But we see and feel the heat from the fire on the grills. They always do a certain cooking technique that creates a giant fireball and the whole table erupts in awe and excitement. One day we will try that side, but for now wet are good with AYCE and our sushi chef Vinnie. I wish Vinnie would come to San Jose and open a sushi restaurant in my hometown !!! I know it would be a hit as he has some special rolls and sauces not seen in other sushi restaurants. He just always makes sure everything is right and the food is tasty. Plus he makes sure you got enough to eat. If you leave here hungry, you either don't like sushi or you are on an extreme diet. Talking with Vinnie, he created some of the sauces for the sushi. The suace he puts together for the baked green mussels is unbelievable ! I can't say enough about the mussels because they are the best I have ever had anywhere !! We honestly make special trips to Reno just to eat at Ichiban's and have the mussels. It's that good !! Come on Vinnie, come to San Jose ! My wife won't eat sushi at home anymore. She says I will wait to go see Vinnie.

The server was also cheerful and humorous

When we first arrived we were disappointed that we had to wait until the table was completely full. Although we were the first two arrive, we were ordered to sit on the seats to the side. We didn't like that but it got much better after that. We received the same portion of food as everyone else and the chef was entertaining. The server was also cheerful and humorous. The wife and I shared the Imperial and it was plenty of food.

Wayne is good too.

My wife and I are celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary this weekend and we had to come back to Ichiban's! We are never disappointed when we come here. This is a unique type of restaurant as they are a two in one special. They have a teppan yaki (benihana style) side of the restaurant and there is the AYCE (all you can eat) side. We have only been on the AYCE side (it should be called, eat until you can't move. Lol). I would suggest the eat for show side of the restaurant if you have kids or your are a big group. Unless your kids love AYCE sushi or your whole group wants AYCE. The show side of the restaurant is very noisy as there is so much excitement as the chefs cook right in front of you. This is where you will be able to have more traditional Japanese dishes including meats like steak, chicken, and seafood. We enjoy the AYCE side and always sit where sushi chef Vinnie is located. Vinnie is the man, so make sure to ask for him. Tell him Bruce and Alisha sent you ! Lol. There are a lot of sushi restaurants in Reno, but why leave your hotel or have to drive/get a taxi to go around town to find one. Especially when Ichiban's has everything you need and the food is excellent. Two must have dishes on the AYCE side are the baked green mussels (trust me, you never had baked green mussels like these. You will come back just for them ! ) and filet mignon roll. We also try new ones we haven't before each time we go. This time we tried the Pacific roll. It was very good and refreshing to the palate. Once you eat it you will say, oh that's what he meant. Everything we had tried so far has been good. Even the sushi rolls that had ingredients I don't care for were good. Again ask for Vinnie, he will make sure your dining experience is the best ! Wayne is good too, but we have always been with Vinnie. Happy eating !!!

They treated us like family.

My whole family was in town for a wedding and we wanted a restaurant that could handle a large group with good food. We all just showed up at Ichiban and they treated us like family. No long wait and they gave us tables near each other. Ichiban made us all feel welcome, entertained the whole family with a great show and the Dinner was the best in the area. We spent a bit of money but everyone had a such a good time that they will never forget.

Terrific sense of humor and amazing skills!

I had been to other Japanese steakhouses throughout the West, but this was the first time at this restaurant. It was an absolutely amazing experience. Manny was our chef, and he was entertaining, very skilled, funny, and absolutely made our experience. (We looked around at other tables that night, and none were laughing or applauding as much as ours!) My wife and I came to the restaurant to celebrate Valentines Day, a few days late. We thoroughly enjoyed the entrees, appetizers and all the food. But really what pushed it over the top was Manny's interaction with all of us at the table, his terrific sense of humor and amazing skills! We highly recommend him over ALL other chefs at this restaurant!!!

The food was good, not great. We thought we were splitting the superior, however the waiter thought he would do us a favor and not split it for us. The filet was way too chewy but overall not bad flavoring.

Visited with a colleague whilst staying in Reno on a business trip. The whole dining experience is excellent especially if you have not visited a teppanyaki restaurant before. The food seems quite expensive to start with but once you have eaten all the courses you realize that it is good value. The calamari starter was particularly good.

Has by far the best Sushi Bar in Reno

I am a regular at Ichiban, frequenting the sushi bar weekly. Vinny and Wayne sure get the job done when it comes to sushi, always delivering tight neatly rolled rolls that make your tastebuds fall in love. Ichiban has by far the best Sushi Bar in Reno. Their fish is the freshest, their mussels are huge, and they offer free sake on the week days. The customer service is also fantastic at Ichiban, one of my favorite servers being Iva. Drinks are prompt, plates are cleared, and dessert is always offered. Ichiban also offers a deal for locals in the AYCE sushi for $9 off, which brings the price of sushi lower than most dinner prices for sushi at other restaurants. Although I don't have the Tepanyaki nearly as often as I do sushi, I have had it quite a few times and I am in love. I have never left finishing all of the food I am given, and nothing has every been cooked under perfection. You get what you pay for folks, and Ichiban is certainly a Reno gem that will keep me coming back.

My best friend and I had a girls weekend in Reno and one of our plans was Ichiban. So glad we did! This was the most awesome experience! Walter was our chef and he was so entertaining and kept the sake flowing! The food was so fresh and cooked to perfection. And the quantity was generous. I took a to-go box because I could not finish it all. Walter knows how to cook! I would highly recommend this place and Walter! Can't wait to come back!

Very nice restaurant

Very nice restaurant. The specialty of this restaurants is that you sits on a table of 10 among other people and the chef prepare all the meat and fishes just in-front of you. There is one chef , Mexican, which I forgot his name but he is doing a great show during the food preparation. Very recommended.

This place has fantastic food at a fair price

My wife, mom, dad and I just got back from Ichibans, and this place is AMAZING. It actually has been my wife's and mines favorite restaurant for a while now. The food (especially the fried rice) is awesome, but what really makes Ichibans special is the chefs. They are all great, but Manny really is incredible. He's hilarious, charismatic, fast, and really involves the table in his show. The last time my wife and I went to Ichibans and had Manny as a chef was about a year ago (we remember because manny is the best) and when he rolled up to our table tonight, he remembered us! That may not mean a ton to some people, but we sure liked that. Bottom line is this place has fantastic food at a fair price, but their chefs really set them apart from anywhere else. Next time you go in, ask for Manny!!!!!

Chef Vinny is da best!

Coming from Southern California my GF and I were spoiled with sushi restaurants. But Reno, not so much. We seeked out to experience almost every sushi restaurants in town from Reef, piers, hajj but we finally settled with Ichiban. Chef Vinny is da best! His knowledge, creative and fun when come to cooking some delicious dishes or can totally hypnotize you with his performance. We really enjoy coming here once a week every Friday after a long week and just indulge.

Definitely did not disappoint

I've been here a few times for birthdays. It's great that they give you a free meal on your birthday and it's so much food. Everything there tastes amazing especially their fried rice. It definitely is their specialty. It's a must get. As I said before I've been there a few times and it has always been great and the service is always excellent. Last night was probably the best though. Our night started with Megan. She was so nice and welcoming. She even talked to us about where she was from and where we were from. She was amazing! Our chef was Manny. I was excited to have him as our chef since my co-worker had just been talking about how he was her favorite. He definitely did not disappoint. He was entertaining and funny and most importantly a great chef! Thank you Megan and Manny for making my friends birthday dinner awesome! When we come back next month we know who we are going to request. Thank you!

I will always be coming back.

I've been coming to Ichiban Sushi Bar as a local for a couple years now. The price is very good for local customers and the quality of the fish is excellent. I LOVE sushi. I've been to just about every all you can eat sushi join in Reno. What makes this sushi bar better than others is the sushi chef; specifically Chef Wayne. The rolls that were made, the service from the him, and his attitude about the job seemed to make this a great experience. As a local, I will always be coming back.

Finally, Vinny is back at Ichibans. I have eaten sushi all around the world and his is definitely the best I have had so far. The only downside is that he only does sushi on Monday and Tuesdays but well worth the wait. Try his baked mussels and you will instantly understand that you have been eating like peasants at other sushi restaurants. Can't wait to go back next week!!!

totally entertaining!

I could not have been happier with our first meal here in Reno! Food was excellent our cook was great company and totally entertaining! The hostess was pretty nice and suggested we visit their bar within the restaurant and the bartender (female) was so wonderful :) she even knew to pour a bit of my beer out, then swirl to get out the bottom sediment of flavor! Our order taker was very friendly and so nice, he was great to have there before the show started!

I decided to take my family to Ichiban for my wife's birthday dinner. We took advantage of the early bird special at 5:30 PM and were pleasantly surprised at the yummy food and great deal. The meal started off with a hot washcloth to clean your hands, miso soup, a larger than expected cucumber salad and an appetizer of either shrimp or calamari grilled in front of you on the big grill. Next, came a choice of fried rice ($3.75 extra) or white rice, and grilled vegetables. The show continued with your chosen main course expertly grilled before your eyes and ended with your choice of ice cream. If you ordered teriyaki chicken, the cost was $14.95; filet minion was $19.95! We will be back! Make sure get reservations. The spots fill fast! Expect to pay at least 50% more during regular dinner hours. Keep smiling.

Not only is the food great, but also the staff and atmosphere

I've been here a couple of times growing up and I recently went with family for my birthday. We reserved for Tepanyaki. Our talented chef, Jayvee, was entertaining and cooked an overall delicious meal for my family and I. The birthday special is mouthwatering. I am so pleased to write a review for Ayla and Wayne! Ichiban was always my go to spot for sushi because of one sushi chef who used to work here. I stopped going when she left, but I decided to come back to introduce a friend from out of town to the all-you-can-eat experience. I am so glad I chose to go back to Ichiban! Wayne is now my favorite sushi chef in Reno. He is very attentive and speedy, even making custom orders for us (which is great for us with allergies to gluten and shellfish). My friend and I were very impressed. Ayla was a fantastic waitress, she really rounded out our whole experience and made us feel at home. By the end of the meal we were all laughing and taking pictures together. I'm so so so glad to have given my friend such a healthy dose of Reno hospitality at Ichiban.

Love it!

Love it! By FAR best Japanese Steakhouse in Reno. I wish they were open for lunch! My husband and I always split our meal and kust pay the extra $14 for an extra salad, appetizer, fried rice and desert. It is so much food! I moved from Fresno and was sad until I found this place because nothing in Reno compared to the Japanese Steakhouse there. This place is totally worth the money! They take reservations too!

The chef was very interactive

Came to this restaurant on Tuesday night and they were packed. We were seated right on time (our party of 12 took up the whole table). The server was super friendly and efficient and the food was excellent quality (I ordered the Empress - all seafood - it was amazing). The chef was very interactive and put on a fun show for my nephew's birthday (even tossing a shrimp into his mouth which he loved). The ambiance is beautiful and the staff even came out to sing happy birthday to my nephew! This is a great place to celebrate birthdays - we will be back for all of our family birthdays.

I cannot describe to you in words what a great sushi chef vinny is . !! Does a great job and the service is outstanding. I would totally recommend sushi lovers here I doubt you'll be able to find another stake/sushi bar in reno like this one ! !.

Great group atmosphere. I went here yesterday with several co-workers to celebrate closing a major deal and not only was to food delicious but the entertainment was fantastic! Our chef even managed to catch the shrimp in his hat!

Wow great food and great show. Fried rice extra garlic is where it's at. Best fried rice on the planet. We ordered a filet mignon/chicken and a chicken/shrimp and both were amazing. Manny is a great chef and put on a phenomenal show. Our server Kirsten was also awesome. Thanks!

Great sushi here I've been to others sushi bar and haven't tasted sushi like this one. I recommend you have vinney serve you great customer service!! .if u ever visit here you need to try the mussels vinney makes there definitely the best!!

It really makes the total experience better.

Had an amazing meal with Chef Manny and Megan as our waitress for a birthday celebration. Every time we have dinner here the experience is a little different and better! This time we had folks from other tables asking if Manny could serve them, while he was doing our show...that should tell management something!! The pair of Manny and Megan is far better than any other chef/waitress pairing we've experienced, it really makes the total experience better.

Make sure to ask for Vinny. Dont even order, just ask for Vinny's chef specials. Amazing! He works mon, tues, friday - sunday. Holly will be your waitress. She is amazing too!

Good service... Easy to find parking places.

IchiBan is an incredible experience. As we enter, we have the impression if being in Japan. The decoration and music put us in the mood for a wonderful Asian meal and we are not disappointed. The chefs know how to show us a real cooking lesson embellished by their unbelievable abilities to juggle bowls of rice and pepper/salt shakers. As well, their sushi is among the very best in town. I love their food and would recommend it to anybody who loves to eat and enjoy a pleasant evening. Good service... Easy to find parking places.

Our chef Manny was amazing!! Great food, fun atmosphere and awesome location! We came on Valentine's Day and they had a special menu that was phenomenal. Our meal included shrimp and calamari app, veggies, filet mignon, lobster and teriyaki chicken. Would definitely recommended this place to anybody traveling to Reno.

Best Japanese grill around.

Been coming here for birthday dinners since i was 20, I'm now 26 and i still love coming here to eat. Best Japanese grill around. I had the Ichiban dinner and like always the food was perfectly prepared. Aaaand they have the most amazing chef...MANNY!!! Ask for him if you can, you wont regret it, he is the best! That man deserves a raise!!!

The food is fantastic. The server was great and very personable. If you want your atmosphere of a great dinner ruined come here. The busser started clearing the table before I was finished . After 30 years in food service I have never allowed a busser to clear tables before the customers were finished eating!!!!!

The Sushi bar at Ichiban's is somewhere that we visit quite often. The sushi there, in my opinion, is the best in Reno. I have been to pretty much all of the other sushi restaurants in town, and none of them compare to the sushi at Ichiban's. Wayne and Vinny are both amazing sushi chefs, and we always make sure to sit with one of them. The fish is very fresh, and the rolls are amazing. Also, the appetizers are great, too! The service from the servers there is also great, and they are always so friendly. The locals discount is pretty sweet also. If you are a local, you get $8.00 off of your meal, which brings it down to $21.95 per person for all you can eat. I absolutely love this place, the fun atmosphere, and the employees. I highly recommend everyone to try it!

I would recommend this place if you want a fun show and great dinner. I took my husband to this place for his birthday, and it was my first time. They had this shrimp that was seasoned and it was the best fish ever. The chef was funny made us all laugh and it was delicious food. We had a great time. We will be back soon

I'm heading back, asap.

The first Ichibans I ate at, was in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, and it was fantastic. The second one was in Minneapolis, MN, and it too was fantastic. The one here in Reno, which is where I now live, is not disappointing in the least. So suffice it to say, I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is excellent, the chef experienced, funny, and entertaining, the wait staff, and the hostess were polite, and professional. Don't wait, make a reservation, and enjoy. I'm heading back, asap.
